Bornholm: The Foodie Island

Bornholm is considered a “foodie” island by leading international gourmet enthusiasts. This trend has evolved over the last decade and more with a lot of superlative small restaurants. Bornholm even has a Michelin restaurant - the Kadeau.

The “locals” (both tourists and people living on the island) can enjoy an impressively wide selection of good food. The following recommendations are based on our personnel experience. This does not mean that there are not other restaurants available in the area or that your taste is the same as ours

Within walking distance < 3Km:

Tejn:

Skipperkroen – https://www.skipperkroenitejn.dk/ - Strongly recommended!!!
Smedjen - https://smedjenitejn.dk/ - Street food mixed with music, dance, trade booth and exhibits. Check their calendar.
Brøderne Bageri - Breakfast bread, lunch sandwiches and home made pizzas (the later only served between 5:00PM and 8:00PM)
Also - try the Penyllan micro-brewery on Tejn harbor which also served pub-food. For opening hours check their website.

Sandkaas:

- Hotel Frihedden restaurant – in general a good variety, a little high in pricing, but ok for the quality. (~1.1Km)
- Aroy Dee Thai Kitchen - have also take-out (~1.2Km)
- Stammehalle Badehotel Restaurant (remember to make reservation) (~2.6Km)

Within biking Distance < 10Km:

Allinge - Sandvig:

There are a lot of eateries in Alling and Sandvig. We have to admit, we have not visited them all - yet!

Worth driving for:

Gudhjem:

This is an extremely beautiful port by the Baltic Sea which offers many exceptionally interesting and compelling attractions. There are numerous eateries including the Gudhjem Rogeri (www.smokefish.dk) which offers a buffet lunch every day. (I nice weather, you can bring your lunch up to their upper dining deck and soak in the sun and harbor atmosphere). There are lovely boutiques including a glass blowing gallery where you can see live demonstrations and select beautiful gifts to take home. For the more adventuresome, the ferry to the island of Christiansø (Ertholmene) also departs from here.

Nexoe:

Colinarium : They offer the best cod preparation we have ever have tasted. Be sure to consider their ‘Salmon Plank’. It is terrific! This is a seasonal restaurant, so check their opening times (see www.culinarium-bornholm.com)
