Normally sea-trout in not possible in the summer month. BUT when that is said, fishing for Sea-Trout and Cod in the summer month is very much possible on Bornholm. Due to the deep/cooler water close to the cliffs in the northern part of Bornholm, the sea-trout is coming close to the coast at late evening, night and early morning. In this period many good sized trout has been landed – including in Allinge, Tejn and Gudhjem harbor!

when to fish

Where to fish - this is the big question, but on Bornholm almost everywhere is good. Second – it depend on what you want to fish for, your fishing method (preference) and what time of year you are going fishing. The best link for the good fishing spots are to be found here (sorry it is only in Danish) https://www.lystfiskeribornholm.dk/. A direct link for fishing in Tejn Harbor is here: https://www.lystfiskeribornholm.dk/tejn-havn/ If you look through the “Catch Reports” for Bornholm you might get some ideas (see: http://www.din-fangst.dk/forside/fangster . Methods of fishing:

Trolling:

Trolling is a popular method to catch the Baltic Salmon (Salmon Salar) – this is the trophy fish to be hunting in the waters around Bornholm. The record is right now standing on 22.56Kg (49.74Lb). Baltic Salmon between 15Kg and 20Kg is frequently landed. You can fish with fresh bait or with artificial lures. Large spoons on downriggers for depth control are working best. Note: Downriggers are not allowed to be used within 1 nautical mile from the coast of Bornholm.

There are two trolling events on Bornholm. The Trolling Master Bornholm and the Trolling Træf Bornholm. Both takes place at or close to HAVNEHYGGEN’s location in Tejn (Trolling Master Bornholm less than 100m way!).

Tejn is the harbor hosting the Trolling Master Bornholm tournament sponsored by TV2. You can sit on the balcony on Havnehyggen and enjoy the life and entertainment of this event.

https://bornholm.info/en/trolling-master-bornholm/

Melsted is the location for Trolling Træf Bornholm (6.5 Miles – 11Km from Tejn). The event will take place in 2019 from Saturday 13th of April to Saturday 20th of April. For more information please follow this link:
https://laksetrolling.dk/trollingtraef/

The season to catch Baltic Salmon is February to May and again from October to December.

Local trolling service (boat with skipper) is available – see: http://veronasportsfiskeri.dk Contact: Per Sjøstrøm, Phone +45 2324 9841, E-mail Per@verona.dk http://www.eastsidetrolling.dk/ Contact Kin Finne, Phone +45 2013 3289, E-mail eastside.trolling@gmail.com

Deep sea fishing:

Deep sea fishing with own boat or with community boats (you pay per person) is a year around event. Depending on the season you can catch everything from flounders to cod. Here you can fish with:

how to fish

On these boat(s) you can often rent fishing gear if you don’t have your own. Remember to inform skipper at time of reservation that you will need to rent fishing gear.

Coastal fishing from boat:

One of the most common ways to fish is with small boats, either with small outboard motor or rowed by hand. Most of the coastal areas of northern side of Bornholm (both East and West) will in the summer period provide you with excellent fishing for sea-going trout (Salmon Truta Truta), cod, mackerel and other fighting/eatable fish.

Fishing for these is done with fly fishing, spinning with artificial lures or with bait fishing. Here you will also run into the herring. You can catch these using a leader with shiny hooks size 4 – 10 and a “Herring-sinker” (Sildelod):

If you did not bring your boat, boat rental is available at:
http://www.bornholm-baadudlejning.dk/index.php?badudlejning

Coastal fishing from shore:

Coastal fishing from shore is the most common way to fish when you are on Bornholm. The fish to catch are the same as for costal fishing from boat, but the fishable area you can cover is depending of your casting skills. If you are fishing with waders – you must watch out for slippery rocks. If you want to maximize the time you are on Bornholm, we recommend that you take a short guided tour with a professional fishing guide (http://www.lystfiskerguide.dk/index.php) or (http://www.bornholmfiskeguide.dk), which can teach you all the local “insights” and after that you are loose with a lot more knowledge.

Recommended equipment to bring:

For Spinne Fishing:
9-11 ft Rods, Spinning reel or bait cast reel with a minimum of 150-200M line. For spinning reel 0.12 – 0.17 mm fire-line is recommended. For bait cast reel 0.25 mm Monofilament line is recommended. Spoons and wobblers between 15 - 30g are recommended. Eventually bring a float in same weight class.

For Flue Fishing:
9 ft rod AFTM 8-9, Floating or neutral fly-line AFTM 8 - 9, flue reel with 100 meter backing line. Flies: (Shrimp imitation, brown, black or speckled flies in hook size #6-8.

Miscellaneous:
Waders, wading-jacket or rain jacket, waders belt and landing net. Wading stick is recommended! Check the weather and bring clothing accordingly (better warmer that needed).

Beside fly-fishing or spinning fishing with artificial lures, a popular method to fish for trout is Bombarda fly fishing, which is done by using a spinning rod and a special Bombarda weight/float. Please see:

On Bornholm there is also Garfish competition. In 2018 it took place May 11th – 12th. Please follow their web page at:
http://www.bornholmshornfiskefestival.dk/index_eng.php

Finally – and for the tenth time in 2018 - there is din-fangst.dk Coast Cup by Sport Dress: http://www.din-fangst.dk/forside/kystcup. This is a 5 days sea-trout competition which in 2018 takes place from Nov 4th to Jan 6th and always on a Sunday! But you do not have to be there all days, you are welcome to participate for only one day.

REMEMBER – you do not have to participate in any event, just relax and enjoy the fishing right outside. When you are at Havnehyggen you will not have long to walk to get to a good fishing area. The coastal area around Tejn is one of the best trout areas on the Northeast coast; even in the harbor you can catch trout!

Some facts about Tejn Harbor:

Tejn Harbor is one of Bornholm’s largest ports, with active commercial fishery and many trolling activities.

The port has a self-service information point with always up-to-date weather forecasts, as well as the codes you need for bathing, toilet and Wi-Fi.

The port and the town of Tejn has virtually everything a visiting yachter needs: In addition to a supermarket, specialty shops and eateries, Tejn offers service businesses, which include a large slipway, shipyard, ship electrician, ship engine workshop, sail-maker’s, ship’s equipment business, coin-operated laundry, etc.

There are also splendid opportunities along the waterfront to bathe in the Baltic Sea or barbecue with a beautiful view to the north and south of the harbor, possibly supplemented with a dip in the outdoor hot tub or a visit to the wood-fired sauna.

The Port of Tejn is the closest harbor to the Art Museum of Bornholm and the intriguing Rø Golf Course. To the north, one of the island’s loveliest paths winds its way along the rocky coast to Allinge, about 5 km away.

The harbor is undoubtedly the calmest harbor in all kinds of weather. Tejn Harbor may be entered during all weather and wind conditions. When North and NE-ly winds prevail, care should be taken if the wind force is >20c/sec. Caution is advised as it is a commercial fishing harbor with 85 berths. Visiting boats may only use the east harbor. The harbor may be entered day and night, allowances being made for wind, current and visibility. Compass variation can occur. Hammerodde Lighthouse will guide boats in during approach. During approach, the harbor's light beacons line up to guide boats between the rocks at 144.4 degrees. In calm weather, a gentle surface current in the Baltic Sea sets around Bornholm in a WSW-ly direction toward the Sound, the Great Belt and the Little Belt. A crane is available that can handle up to 10 tons (mobile). It has a slipway for ships up to 400 tons.
